Marion Marine Lance Cpl. Aaron C. Pickering, 20, died Wednesday, November 10, 2004 near Fallujah, Iraq.
Aaron was born October 28, 1984 in Harrisburg to Carl Pickering and Lisa Killman Short.
Aaron was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 3rd Marines, G Company. He was a graduate of Harrisburg High School, having attended Marion High School until his junior year. During high school Aaron excelled at golf, finishing 52nd in the state meet his senior year, he was all conference his freshman and sophomore years, finishing 2nd his freshman year. Aaron loved to hunt and fish. He won 1st place in the 58th IL State Championship Junior Goose Calling contest and he won a Senior Goose Calling contest in Baltimore Maryland.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 18, 2004 at 11:00 A.M. at 1st Baptist Church, 401 West Union Street, Marion with Dr. Joey Brent officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. Visitation services will be held Tuesday at the Harrisburg High School from 5:00 9:00 P.M. and Wednesday from 4:00 9:00 P.M. at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion. The US Marine Corps will conduct full Military detail.
The family has requested that for those who prefer donations may be given to the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society, 4015 Wilson Blvd, 10th Floor, Arlington VA 22203-1978. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. The Navy-Marine Corp Relief Society is a private non-profit organization that provides emergency financial and other assistance to Sailors and Marines and their eligible family members.
