Andy R. Skaggs

Carterville- Andy R. Skaggs, 50, of Carterville, formerly of Joliet, passed away with his wife by his side at 11:30 AM, Friday, November 19, 2004 at Herrin Hospital. Andy was born on December 1, 1953 in Ashland, KY to Arthur Vernon & Margaret (Woods) Skaggs. He married his childhood sweetheart, Marilyn S. T. Karol on June 1, 1975 at the family home in Ashland, KY. She survives of Carterville. Mr. Skaggs was a US Army Veteran having served during the Vietnam War. He received several citations for meritorious service. Once stateside, he attended Southern Illinois University-Carbondale and graduated in 1979. He was employed as a Custom Color Printer for Emerson Electric in St. Louis. Andy was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veteran Chapter 9, as well as the Gateway Chapter of the Paralyzed Veterans Association. In his spare time he enjoyed spending time with his loving wife and fishing for bass at Devils Kitchen or at Lake Mattoon with his aunt and uncle. He enjoyed reading and was an avid Stephen King fan. He was preceded in death by his father and one brother; Randy Skaggs. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, November 23, 2004 at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Joliet, IL. Rev. Kevin Comfort will officiate. Burial will follow with military rites provided by the Manhattan VFW & American Legion Posts. Visitation will be from 6-8:00 PM, Monday, November 22, 2004 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin and from 1:00 until time of service, Tuesday at the cemetery.
