Avis Darlene (Bennett) Christ

Avis Darlene (Bennett) Christ, 74, of Marion, Illinois, passed away peacefully, on Friday, July 22, 2022, surrounded by family.  Avis was born on May 18, 1948, in Sullivan, Indiana. She was the daughter of Avery and Cathern Bennett.  She was a 1966 graduate of Marion High School.  Avis married Alex Christ on July 24, 1965. Together they shared almost 57 years of marriage. From that union they had two children, Alexis and Aaron.

Avis is survived by her husband, Alex Christ; her daughter Alexis (Terry) Rogers of Paducah, Kentucky; her son, Aaron (Julie) Christ of Herrin, Illinois; her grandchildren, Tyler (Jaela) Bowles, Emilee (Jared) Sigler, Cameron Christ, Cooper Christ; her great grandchildren, Rilee Bowles, Ryder Bowles, and Claire Sigler.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one granddaughter, Katie Bowles.

Avis was a member of Zion United Church of Christ.  She considered the love she shared with her family her greatest joy.  She loved attending her grandson’s sporting events and watching her great granddaughter dance.  She enjoyed playing cards with her group of friends and sharing jigsaw puzzles amongst each other.  She liked to sew and help others with their swimming pools, which she grew to love from her employment at Olympic Pools of the Heartland in Marion.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at Zion United Church of Christ in Marion, on Sunday, July 31, 2022.  A time for family and friends to gather at the church will be from 2:30 PM until 4:30 PM. A memorial service will begin at 4:30 PM. Binkley-Ross Funeral Home was entrusted with assisting the family with arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests with gratitude, that memorial contributions be directed to Hospice of Southern Illinois or Zion United Church of Christ.  Envelopes will be available at the church on the day of service or can be mailed c/o Binkley-Ross Funeral Home, 1702 W.
