Energy- Elizabeth Ann Betty Hall, 85, of Energy, went to be with her lord & savior, at 11:05 AM, Thursday, February 10, 2005 at Friendship Care Center in Herrin. Betty was born on July 17, 1919 in Devonshire, England to Fredrick & Laura Jane (Kemp) Newcombe. She came to America in 1946, after serving with the Royal British Army. Betty was a WWII war bride. She met and married Carl W. Hall in England, while he was stationed with the US Army. They married on June 2, 1945 in Biddeford, England. He preceded her in death on July 19, 2001. Mrs. Hall worked at Sangamon Electric and as a sales clerk for a dress shop in Carbondale prior to her retirement. She was an active member of Lone Oak Baptist Church in Energy, having served as a Sunday school teacher and longtime treasurer. She was also active with Home extension of Williamson County. She will be missed by those that knew and loved her. SURVIVORS: Sister & bro in law- Jane & Ronald Weatherly- Northan, England Sister in law- Ruth Newcombe- Northan, England Niece- Julie Gordon & husband Clive- Exiter, England Nephew- Albert Hall & wife Sally- Marissa, IL Nephew- Andrew Newcombe- England Many other nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother; William Reginald Newcombe. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, February 15, 2005 at Lone Oak Baptist Church in Energy. Rev. Jerry Schell will officiate. Burial will follow at East Lawn Memorial Gardens. Military rites will be performed at graveside by the Herrin American Legion & VFW Posts. Visitation will be from 6-9:00PM, Monday, February 14, 2005 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral home in Herrin. Memorial donations are suggested to the Williamson County Crisis Center and will be accepted at the funeral home.
