Betty Jean Sherertz

OBITUARY

Betty Jean Sherertz, 94, of Marion, Illinois, passed away on January 6, 2022, surrounded by her family. Betty was born at home in Marion, the daughter of Roy Ernest Deaton and Mary Elizabeth "Bessie" (Opie) Deaton. Betty married Jack E. Sherertz on April 29, 1950, in Piggott, Arkansas. Together they shared 55 years of marriage until his death in 2005.

Mrs. Sherertz has always been a very hard worker, from her early days working at General Telephone until her latest work as a waitress. She used her many skills over the years helping area businesses grow and thrive. She enjoyed walks down her driveway for daily exercise, cooking delicious meals for her family, who describe her as a baker extraordinaire. She was adamant about keeping a clean and tidy home and loving her family well. She was a huge fan of Louis L'Amour western books.

Survivors include her son, Larry Sherertz (Sharon); her grandson, Josh (Cindy) Sherertz; her great-grandchildren, Riley and Sayler Wachter; her brother, George Deaton, along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents Roy and Bessie, her husband Jack; her brother, Roy Ernie Deaton; her beloved dogs, Smokey, Izzy, and Molly, along with nieces and nephews and friends.

Binkley-Ross Funeral Home located at 1702 W. Hendrickson Street, Marion, Illinois 62959 has been entrusted with assisting the family with arrangements, under the direction of Joni Binkley-Ross and Monte Blue.

There will be a time of visitation for family and close friends on Monday, January 10, 2022, beginning at 10:00 AM. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 AM, with Pastor Lance Leeds officiating. Interment will follow at Egyptian Memorial Gardens. Due to health concerns related to the Covid-19 virus and the signing of executive order by the Governor of the State of Illinois, if you are planning on attending the service and/or visitation, the wearing of face masks is Preferred and customarily accepted social distancing guidelines are encouraged.

In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions be directed to The Alzheimer's Association or Shriner's Children's Hospital in honor of Jack and Betty Sherertz.
