Herrin- Brett Samuel Shemwell, 29, of Herrin, died at 2:30 AM, Sunday, June 27, 2004 in Herrin.
Brett was born on January 15, 1975 in Carbondale to Sam & Mona (Goins) Shemwell of Herrin. He worked as a senior graphic design artist for EcoDigital Development Group. He also performed freelance graphic work from his own business, Intel Logic, from his home in Herrin.
Brett was a warm, caring, free spirited, fun loving young man who enjoyed his family and his friends. He loved participating in (he still holds several records for basketball at South Side Jr. High in Herrin) and watching (especially the Dallas Cowboys) sports. He enjoyed golfing and playing cards with his buddies. Brett was a talented artist and liked to draw. He drew inspiration from artists like Van Gogh and Dali. Brett most enjoyed his coffee breaks taken throughout the day to play Frisbee with his beloved dog Arti.

He was preceded in death by his great grandmother; Louise Collard, grandmother; Cleda Shemwell, and grandfather; Ferrell Goins.
The funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, June 30, 2004 at the Family Life Center of the First United Methodist Church in Herrin. The Rev. LaVon Bayler will officiate. Burial will follow at Herrin City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-9:00 PM, Tuesday, June 29, 2004 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin.
