Charles Adams, a proud native son of Southern Illinois and alumni of Southern Illinois.
University passed away recently in his hometown of Carbondale, Illinois.
Charles who always responded to the call of duty served his country with pride and distinction.
He served his family with love, care, and devotion.
When he was 18 years old, shortly after high school graduation, Charles joined the United
States Navy. He served two tours of duty in Vietnam as a Navy Hospital Corpsman.
“Doc” as he was affectionately known to the Navy and Marine service personnel in his care
received the Vietnam Service Medal with the Fleet Marine Force Combat Operation Insignia.
He also received the National Defense Service Medal.
Subsequent to his Vietnam deployment, Charles served as Navy Corpsman to the
Patron Two Four (VP-24) “Batmen.”
Upon release from active duty, Charles further served his nation for 28 years as a career
diplomat attached to the United States Department of State from which he retired.
After retirement, Charles loved nothing more than a day spent fishing while holding his favorite
rod and reel paired with the perfect lure and enjoying a good cigar.
He is survived by numerous family members and friends who mourn his loss, cherish his
memory and will forever say his name with love, admiration and gratitude.
His legacy will be honored with a Committal Service to include Navy Military Honors and
Interment at the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, Missouri.
