Herrin - Charles E. (Utchey) Bearden, 68, formerly of Johnston City, died at 3:18 p.m. Thursday, August 29, 2002 at Herrin Hospital.
Mr. Bearden was born March 8, 1934 in Marion, IL to Alfred and Opal Bearden.
He married Betty Lou Montgomery June 29, 1962 at First Baptist Church in Johnston City, IL. They were devoted to each other.
He was retired from Norge Company in Herrin in 1999 after 40 years. He was a lineman in the Paint Department and Machine Shop. He was an avid sports fan and loved football and always wanted to be a coach. He loved the Johnston City Indian and kept in contact with his friends and colleagues from high school and college in Iowa.

His parents, one stillborn brother, Guy Bearden, two brothers, Alfred and Russell Bearden and one stillborn sister, Marietta Bearden preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 1, 2002 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin, IL. Rev. Don Colson will officiate. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the hour of service. Burial will be at East Lawn Memorial Gardens in Energy, IL
