Dana S. (Smothers) Hoffman

August 23, 1946 - November 29, 2023

Dana Hoffman, age 77, of Marion, IL passed away peacefully in her home with her family by her side at 12:40 am on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, in Marion.  She was born on August 23, 1946, in Carbondale, IL, the daughter of Eva Smothers and JP Smothers.

Dana was united in marriage to Terry Hoffman on November 28, 1968, in Marion and they were married exactly 55 years and one day.  She was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church in Marion.  She taught kindergarten and first grade for 28 years at Longfellow Elementary School in Marion and was known to many as Mrs. Hoffman.

She will be remembered as being a loving wife, mom and Memaw.  She was selfless and genuinely caring for others.  She worried about everyone other than herself.  For those that knew her, know that she was simple and not one to need or want attention.

She is survived by her husband, Terry and her son Aaron Hoffman and wife Amber Hoffman and daughter Angi Albright; sister Paula Risner and husband Tom Risner; five grandchildren, Taylor, Hayley and Logan Hoffman, Jaylee Douglas and Easton Albright, as well as many great and loving friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother Pat Smothers.

She wished for no visitation or funeral services, but rather a small gathering of her immediate family at a later time to celebrate her life. Memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois through Binkley-Ross Funeral Home.
