Danny Lee Summers, 87, of Marion, Illinois, passed away peacefully on March 17, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on May 17, 1937, in Royalton, Illinois, the son of Flossie and Lindsey Summers.

On October 28, 1966, Danny married the love of his life, Shirley, and they shared many wonderful years together until her passing on February 27, 2022.

Danny proudly served his country in the United States Navy, where he was stationed aboard the USS GWINDM 33 as a Machinist’s Mate 3rd Class. He was honorably discharged on July 11, 1962.

After his military service, Danny built a career in skilled trades, retiring from IBEW Local 702 and later from the Student Center Maintenance Department at SIU Carbondale.

Danny’s greatest joy was his family. He is survived by his children: Robin Summers, Mary (Carl) Jarrell, Danny Wells; his grandchildren: Christina (Tim) Grob, of Rantoul, Illinois, Sarah (Shawn) Acosta of Crandall, Georgia, Adam (Ashley) Anderson of Wolf Lake, Illinois, Megan Wells of Marion, Illinois, and Brinna Jarrell of Marion, Illinois; and his great-grandchildren: Kayleigh and Liana Acosta, Corbin Grob, Jordan Grob, Chase Grob, Hayden Grob, and Addison Grob. He is also survived by his nephew Lindsey (Jamie) Summers, sister-in-law Linda Clark, and his cherished fur babies, Honey, Annie, and Lucy.

Danny was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Shirley Summers; his son, Jimmy Russell; his mother, Flossie Hall; his stepfather, Otis Hall; his brother, Ray Summers; his sister, Louise Lee; and his father Lindsey Summers.

Per his wishes, a private Celebration of Life will be held on April 5, 2025. Arrangements have been entrusted to Blue Funeral Home under the direction of Binkley-Ross.
