Diana Louise (Felts) Debartolo

Sorry to announce the passing of Diana Louise Debartolo of Elkhart, Indiana on the 8th of March at the age of 67.  Diana was born on the 14th of June 1956 at the US Army Hospital in Frankfurt, Germany.  Her parents, Floyd and Ingeborg Felts were living in Germany at the time due to her father’s career in the US Army.

Upon rotating to the US at age 6 and ½ weeks Diana resided with her parents in the state of New Jersey.  Due to her father’s career Diana moved on average every 3 years to another state in the US or overseas.  Upon reaching school age she attended schools in New Jersey, Texas, Colorado, Germany, and Africa.  She graduated high school at the Kaiserslautern American High School in Kaiserslautern, Germany on June 7, 1974.  Her secondary education consisted of 1.5 years at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, Colorado, located north of Denver.  She then transferred to Augusta College in Augusta, Georgia where her family resided.  This culminated in her graduation with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing.  Upon attaining her RN degree, she worked in hospitals in the Augusta area which included a five-year stint in the burn unit at the Medical College of Georgia, attending to patients with very serious burn conditions.  She continued hospital work in critical care positions in the Augusta area and eventually, at the age of 45, transferred to the Elkhart, Indiana area where she worked as a traveling nurse in hospitals throughout the state of Indiana.  She eventually settled in working at hospitals in the Elkhart area. Her vast nursing experience resulted in her being highly sought after in hospitals throughout the area.  She recently retired after 42 years in nursing.

Diana is predeceased by her mother Ingeborg E. Felts who passed away in 2021.

She is survived by her father Floyd Felts, cousins Jerry (Julie) Felts, Sherry (Greg) Starrick, Marsha Holderfield, second cousins Monica Zukas, Felicia Anvick, and Marionna Ping; her son Michael Debartolo, Lea Debartolo, Mike and Judy Debartolo and Andy and Gina Debartolo., along with other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 15, 2024, from 11:00-1:00 PM at Binkley-Ross Funeral Home located at 1702 West Boulevard Street, Marion, Illinois. Funeral services will begin at 1:00 PM with Reverend Jim Slone officiating. Interment will follow in Rosehill Cemetery.

In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions be directed to the American Heart Association.
