George Hamilton Wilkerson

George Hamilton Wilkerson, 91, of Creal Springs, Illinois, passed away peacefully at his home on July 3, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. George was born on March 26, 1933, in Richmond Heights, Missouri, the son of Floyd and Orpha (nee Hellings) Wilkerson.

Mr. Wilkerson honorably served our grateful nation in the United States Army.  He was stationed in New Jersey where he also met the love of his life, Eleanore Thiele.  They were united in marriage on May 28, 1955.  Together they shared 64 years of marriage until her passing on July 14, 2019. From that union, they raised four children, Diane, George Jr., Elayne, and John.

George was employed as an auto mechanic for over 50 years. He loved his family and cherished his grandchildren. He had a great sense of humor and was skilled at creating and delivering funny content to entertain others.  He enjoyed jig saw and crossword puzzles, building model cars, boating and lake fishing.

He is survived by his children Diane Wilkerson (Lisa Odehnal), George (Cindy) Wilkerson Jr., Elayne (Dan) Cotter, and John (Michele) Wilkerson; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; five siblings, along with other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents Floyd and Orpha Wilkerson; wife Eleanore Wilkerson; and four siblings.

His family will hold a Celebration of Life in his honor at a later date.

In lieu of customary remembrances the family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions be directed to Hospice of Southern Illinois.  Donations may be dropped off at Binkley-Ross Funeral Home located at 1702 West Boulevard Street, Marion, Illinois 62959.
