Marion James E. Redden, 73, passed away on Thursday, September 8, 2005 at 8:00 P.M. at his home in Marion with his family at his side. Jim was born January 11, 1932 in West Frankfort to Hugh F. & Thelma (Frazier) Redden. He married Rosemary Gothard on January 16, 1953 in Herrin and together they have shared over 52 years of marriage. Jim graduated from McKendree College in Lebanon in 1953 where he played football, ran track and was manager for the basketball team. He was a Veteran of the Korean War, serving in the Army. After returning from the service Jim taught and coached at Cairo and Eldorado High Schools. He was Program Manager for Universal Match Corp, Vice President of Central Technology, Inc. of Herrin, retired after 20 years as Vice President with the Olin Corporation in Marion and East Alton, IL, and Executive Vice President Of Valentec International Corp in St. Louis. Jim also taught business management courses at Southern Illinois University and John A. Logan College. Jim was an avid golfer at West Frankfort Golf Club. Jims civic and community involvements include: Member of Aldergate United Methodist Church, Marion Rotary Club, Williamson County Airport Authority Board, Organizer & Director South Pointe Bank, Precinct Committeeman for the Republican Party and 32nd degree mason of Marion Lodge #89 A.F.&A.M., Valley of Southern Illinois. Jim served as Past President of Marion Wildcats Booster Club, Marion Chamber of Commerce, receiving the Marion Man of the Year award from the Chamber in 1976, Marion Youth Baseball & Softball, Past Chairman of Williamson County Red Cross and Williamson County Housing Authority, and Past Trustee of John A. Logan College. Jim had served as a member of the John A. Logan College Foundation Board, Southern Illinois University School of Business Advisory Board, Southern Illinois Foundation Board, Marion Civic Center Board, Southern Illinois Inc. Board, Methodist Children Home (Mt. Vernon) Board. Survivors included: His Wife Rosemary of Marion Daughter Jamie Powell and husband Nick of Marion Two Sons: Don G. Redden and wife Lynne of Marion Terry D. Redden and wife Debbie of Marion Four Grandchildren: Autumn Redden Brittany Powell James Douglas Redden Brett Powell Great Granddaughter Summer Combs Brother Bill Redden and wife Donna of Wood River Three Sisters: Marge Carter and husband Sam of Kuttawa, KY Janet LeFeber of Kuttawa, KY Betty Pasternak and husband Frank of Fairview Heights, IL Sister-in-law: Betty Redden of Texas Several Nieces & Nephews Preceded by: Parents, Brother Hugh Redden Funeral services will be 2 P.M. on Sunday, September 11, 2005 at Aldersgate United Methodist Church with Rev.s Roger Perry and Roger Russell officiating. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery in Carterville. Visitation will be Saturday from 4:00 8:00 P.M. at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion and from 12:30 P.M. until the time of service on Sunday at Aldersgate United Methodist Church. Masonic services will be conducted Saturday at 7:30 P.M. at Mitchell-Hughes by Marion Masonic Lodge #89 A.F.&A.M. For those who prefer memorials may be made to Aldersgate United Methodist Church Building Fund or Hospice of Southern Illinois. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home and at the church.
