James “Butch” Harvey McNew, 76 of Herrin, IL passed away on February 5, 2025, and was born on September 8, 1948, to James Harry McNew and Gloria (Bourland) McNew.
He was joined together in marriage to Jacqueline (Walker) McNew on May 6, 1983, In Herrin, IL, in which they were able to share many wonderful years together until her passing.
James was a dedicated coal miner by trade and an avid craftsman by passion. He was known for his exceptional skills in woodworking, building everything from houses to jewelry boxes, and furniture. His creative hands brought joy to many, and he took great pride in the things he made. In addition to his love for woodworking, James was a collector of knives, coins, political buttons, and memorabilia. He was also known for his sharp wit, a good joke, and his sarcastic humor.
James served honorably in the U.S. Army after completing 11th grade in highschool.
Survivors include his daughter Judy Reynolds; son Chris Reynolds; brother Terry McNew (Jan); niece Abby Nicole; Daughter in-law Rebecca Gordon; Christina Miskelley, close family friend and caregiver; along with many other relatives and friends.
James is preceded in death by his loving wife Jacqueline McNew, parents James and Gloria McNew, his daughter Mary Reynolds, and his son Joseph Reynolds.
In keeping with his wishes, James will be cremated, and his final resting place will be at San Carlo Cemetery located at 1912 N 8th St, Herrin, IL 62948. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at 10:30am.
Arrangements were entrusted to Binkley-Ross Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to St. Francis Animal Rescue in Murphysboro, IL.
