James “Jim” Rader, 81, of Carbondale, Illinois passed away on Sunday, June 23, 2024, at Helia Health Care in Energy, Illinois, with his daughter Robin and Son in-law, Brent, by his side. Jim was born on January 21, 1943, the son of Robert and Mary (Seeger) Rader. He grew up in Carbondale, Illinois and later moved to Murphysboro.
Jim spent his career as an auto mechanic. He worked in various auto shops for over 50 years. He also worked security for Southern Illinois Security Consultants.
He is remembered as being a very caring and giving man, often helping others before he helped himself. He would do anything for his daughters and family. He had a great sense of humor and always reminded his daughters “The important thing is if you are going to tell a joke, keep a straight face.” He was so proud to be called Pa Pa Rader.
He recently relocated to Marion to be closer to his daughter.
He is survived by his daughters Robin (Brent) Pritchett and Cecilia Rader; his grandchildren Matthew and Mackenzie Pritchett, along with other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Mary Rader and his brother Terry Rader.
Services have been entrusted to Binkley-Ross Funeral Home. Visitation will be held at the funeral home located at 1702 West Boulevard Street, Marion, Illinois, on Friday, June 28, 2024, from 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. Funeral Services will begin at 1:00 P.M., with Pastor David Gilley officiating. Interment will follow at Oakland Cemetery located at 1100 N. Oakland Avenue, Carbondale, Illinois.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests with gratitude that memorial donations be directed to Hospice of Southern Illinois.
