Herrin- Joel Watson McPherson, 81, of Herrin, died at his home at 2:00 AM, Tuesday, April 27, 2004. Joel was born on April 17, 1923 in Lincoln, New Mexico to Joel Walter & Floy Edith (Talley) McPherson. He married his wife of sixty-two years Leona Martin on April 22, 1942 in Elk City, OK. She survives of Herrin. Mr. McPherson was a US Army Veteran who served during WWII in both Germany and France. He was of Baptist faith and retired as a plumber from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale where he worked at the physical plant. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, April 30, 2004 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Rev. Lee Lovett & Jesse McPherson will officiate the service. Burial will follow at Blairsville Cemetery. The Herrin VFW & American Legion Posts will provide military rites at the graveside. Visitation will be from 5-8:00 PM, Thursday, April 29, 2004 at the funeral home. Memorial donations are suggested to either Hospice of Southern Illinois or the First United Methodist Church of Herrin and will be accepted at the funeral home.
