Judith Kay Brandon

Judith Kay (Walker) Brandon, 75 years old of Herrin, IL passed away at Herrin Hospital on April 1, 2021, peacefully surrounded by her loving family. She was born April 22, 1945 in Herrin, IL. Judy was the daughter of Jack and Mary (Will) Walker.

Judy was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Herrin, IL. She was Carterville's Homecoming Queen and 1963 graduate of Carterville High School and later attended VTI where she earned her degree as a Licensed Practical Nurse. She was employed as a L.P.N for Herrin Hospital and spent her career caring for others and helping them through times of illness. She later worked for Dr. Promote and eventually retired from the Imaging Department for Southern Illinois Healthcare, where she made many dear friends that felt like family.

Judy married Gary D. "Bull" Brandon on February 20, 1965. Together they shared 44 years of marriage before his passing on May 20, 2009.

Preceeding her in death are her parents, Jack and Mary Walker; husband, Gary Brandon; her brothers, Roger Walker and Bill Walker.

She is survived by her son, Doug Brandon; her granddaughters, Jenna and Libby Brandon; her grandson, Matthew Brandon; her daughter in law, Tara (Lynn) Brandon; her sister, Jackie McNew; many nieces and nephews, along with other relatives and friends and her four-legged fur babies, Buddy and Lucy.

Judy cherished each member of her family. While growing up, Doug fondly remembers his friends referring to her as "June Cleaver", always cooking and serving others. Your glass was never empty while visiting with Judy. Doug and his family were her pride and joy. She was always a cheerleader for her grandchildren and was often on the scene of all of their ballgames and extracurricular events. She also loved her work family. She was known as the department "Grandma", because of her sweet and giving nature.

Graveside Services will be held on Friday, April 9, 2021 at 11:00 am at the Herrin City Cemetery, located at 1324 E. Stotlar Street, Herrin, IL 62948, with Fr. Mark Reyling officiating. Guests are asked to arrive at the cemetery a few minutes prior to the start of services.

In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions be directed to Our Lady of Mt.
