Herrin

Lana Christine Russell (née Estes) passed away after a courageous battle with cancer, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and strength. Born on August 28, 1962, in Carbondale, Illinois, she was the beloved daughter of James Neil Estes and Zelpha Joan Estes (née McBride).

Christine is survived by her devoted husband, Kent Russell; her cherished daughter, Zelpha Russell; and her adored grandchildren, Rowan Dunk and Kaliber Kreid, who were the absolute lights of her life. She also leaves behind her loving mother, Joan Estes; her siblings, Melanie (Mark) Colombo, Tracy (Lisa) Estes; as well as her nephews, Dax (Abbey Jones) Mezo- Colombo, Tyler Mezo, Alex Estes, and Parker Estes. She was also blessed with a great-niece, Olive Colombo.

She was preceded in death by her father, James Neil Estes, and her beloved four-legged companions—dogs Missy and Gertie; cats Si and Am—who brought her so much comfort and joy.

Christine dedicated 14 years of her life to the Herrin Senior Citizens Center, where she started as a bus driver for the members and later became the coordinator. She also worked at Herrin Hospital for five years in the housekeeping department.

Fiercely loving and devoted to her grandchildren, Christine was happiest when she was with them. She had a sharp wit, a stubborn streak, and a heart full of compassion, especially for animals. She had a deep appreciation for her friends, enjoyed sharing a good joke, and met every challenge with the spirit of a warrior.

Christine was a proud member of the Herrin Elks and found great joy in the camaraderie of the community.
