Lucille A. Mathis

Herrin- Lucille A. Mathis, 84, of Herrin, died at 7:59 AM, Monday, February 16, 2004 at her home with her family. Lucille was born on January 24, 1920 in Rural Herrin to Wilford &Winnie Jane (Bennett) Cox. She married Lemuel G. Mathis on November 1, 1941 in Cape Girardeau, MO. He preceded her in death on August 3, 1969. She was employed as a seamstress at Smoller Bros in Herrin for twenty-one years prior to her retirement. SURVIVORS: Son- Ralph William Mathis- Herrin Daughter- Rosemary Mathis- Hrrin Daughter- Linda Gale Mathis- Herrin Daughter- Billie Louise Mathis- Effingham Daughter- Brenda Lee Mathis- Herrin Daughter- Diana Lynn Mathis- Villa Grove Adopted Daughter- Lois Jones McCoy- Easton, MD Sister in law- Frances Cox- Pontiac, MI Bro & sis in law- Dalton & Omedia Cox- Freeman Spur Bro & sister in law- Edward & Loretta Cox- Crossville, TN Sister- Grace Ayers- Herrin Brother in law & sister in law- Charles & Catherine Mathis- Herrin Sister in law- Peggy Mathis- Dallas, TX Sister in law- Ethel Louise Kauppala- Tuscola, IL Bro in law- Lewis Fitch- Plumfield Many nieces, nephews, and cousins She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers; Vernon, William & Claude Cox, and three sisters; Edith Johnson, Helen Fitch & Gladys Musgrave. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, February 20, 2004 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Rev. Todd Hawk will officiate. Burial will follow at Herrin City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-9:00 PM, Thursday, February 19, 2004 at the funeral home. Memorial donations are suggested to Hospice of Southern Illinois and will be accepted at the funeral home.
