Marilyn A (Smart) Gelgut

Marilyn Gelgut, 75, of Marion, Illinois, passed away on July 1, 2024, at Heartland Regional Medical Center.  Marilyn was born on January 29, 1949, in Centre, Alabama, the daughter of Buford and Myrtle Smart.

Marilyn graduated from Gaylesville High School in 1967.  She spent her career working for GTE as a telephone operator and in telephone sales for NBTY, Inc., an American manufacturer of vitamins and nutritional supplements. She was a faithful member of Marion Aldersgate Church.  She enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening.

She was united in marriage to Denny Gelgut.  They shared 25 years of love and companionship.

She is survived by her husband Denny; her sister Barbara Van Pelt; and her adoring cat, Buddy.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Rayford, Gary, and Bud; her sisters Angie, Joyce, and Debra; and her niece Ashley.

Binkley-Ross Funeral Home has been entrusted to assist the family with arrangements. All services will be private.

In lieu of customary remembrances the family requests with gratitude that memorial donations be directed to Finding Forever Animal Rescue and mailed to 1117 E. Main Street, Marion, Illinois 62959.
