Mary Lee (Rendleman) Edwards Davis

Mary Lee Edwards Davis, age 91 of Marion, Illinois, passed away peacefully on March 29, 2023, at her home at The Anchor Memory Care Center, with her family by her side.  She was born at home on March 18, 1932 in rural Johnson County, east of Goreville, Illinois, the youngest of 12 children, to Norm H. and Nellie May Rendleman.

Mary attended grade school at Bethleham school and graduated from Goreville High School in

1950.

She was united in marriage to the love of her life, Marvin Eugene Edwards on December 1, 1951 in Marion, Illinois. Together they shared 30 years of marriage until his death on November 27, 1981. She later married George O. Davis who also preceded her in death in 2006.

Mary loved her home and was a homemaker in her early life and raised two daughters, Vicki Edwards McCormick and Sherry Edwards.  She later worked as a secretary at the Marion Daily Republican newspaper and for Dale Lovelace Architecture. She also worked at the Marion Veteran’s Administration Hospital until her retirement in her 50’s.

A member of Second Baptist Church in Marion, she was a kind and caring Christian mother and grandmother and a caregiver to her parents in their last years.

She is survived by her two daughters and son-in-laws, Vicki (Scott) McCormick of St. Peters, Missouri, and Sherry (Jerry) Edwards of Marion. Grandsons, Mark (Tarea) Edwards and Andrew (Shannon) Edwards, both of Marion.  Great grandchildren, Alexis Edwards, Elijah and Ashton Edwards and Jacob, Joshua, and Jaxon Edwards, as well as step grandchildren Tyler and Brody Larson, Camren (Gabe) Snell and son, Ropyr, and Nick Hubbard.  She is also survived by many dear nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, five brothers, Roy, Wilson, Harrison, Raleigh, and Robert Rendleman, and six sisters, Oma Curran, Eva Odum, Ora Vorhees, Ella Booth, Virginia Sherman, and Lena Filteau.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Binkley-Ross Funeral Home of Marion, Illinois.  Visitation will be held on Monday, April 3, 2023, from 11:00 – 12:00 PM at the funeral home, located at 1702 West Boulevard Street, Marion, Illinois. Funeral services will begin at noon, with Reverend Bob Dickerson officiating. Burial will follow in Maplewood Cemetery in Marion.

The family has requested that for those who prefer, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
