Marion

Mary L. McAnelly, 85 of Marion, Illinois passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on June 4, 2024, at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh, Indiana.  Mary was born on September 8, 1938, in Nashville, Tennessee, the daughter of Thomas and Nell (nee Johnson) Mallon.

Mary married the love of her life, John McAnelly.  Together they shared 54 years and 8 months of love and companionship until his passing on July 23, 2012.  She and her husband loved their family farm, raising cattle, and working in the hay field.  She was an avid animal lover and fond of her Saratoga Golds.  She enjoyed raising Quarter horses, buying antiques for her shop “Little House on the Pasture.”   She was a past member of the Saddle Club and spent many hours as an announcer at several horse shows. In her spare time, Mary read paperback romance novels, rode her own Harley Davidson motorcycle, and socialized with her friends.  One of her favorite restaurants to eat at was Doe’s in Paducah, Kentucky and she was fortunate enough to eat there twice in one week just recently. Mary attended East Liberty Christian Church.

She is survived by her son Jon McAnelly; her daughter Sindy (Salvatore) Caridi; her grandsons Dante (Sherlymar) Caridi, Sandro Caridi; her granddaughter Rachel Caridi; her great-granddaughter Alaina Caridi; her other children Sherry (Kevin) Ramsey, Tom (Kim) McAnelly; other grandchildren Benji (Beth) Ramsey; Mikki Ramsey, Aaron (Michael) McAnelly; and great-granddaughter; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law Kay and Leon Henderson, and Ed King; special friends “Mudd”, Amy, Jenny, Barb, Vicky, Don, and Eddie, along with other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband John McAnelly; her parents Thomas and Nell Mallon; her mother-in-law and father-in-law Harry and Zella McAnelly; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Pete and Elaine McAnelly, Betty and Bob Jones, Jack and JoAnn McRoy; sister-in-law Pat King; her sister Virginia Moake; and her nephew David Moake.
