Melissa Faye (Prather) Prather

Melissa F. Prather, 58 of Carterville, Illinois passed away peacefully at Herrin Hospital on June 2, 2024.  Melissa was born on August 31, 1965, in Kankakee, Illinois, the daughter of Lindell and Margaret (nee Humphrey) Prather.

Melissa was a 1983 graduate of Eldorado High School and went on to work as a teacher’s assistant at West Side Elementary School in Harrisburg, Illinois.  She was also employed at Aisin Manufacturing working on the assembly of automobile parts.

She is survived by her two daughters Megan (Darren) Ellison and Molly (Rhett) Hughes; her grandchildren Lincoln and Carver Ellison and Milly and Ryker Hughes; her three brothers Gary Prather, Jerry Prather, and Scott (Tammi) Prather; four nieces and nephews; along with other close family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister-in-law Kim Prather.

She was a loving and devoted mother.  She was hardworking and always a friend to all. She loved being a Nana and spending time with her grandchildren.

Binkley-Ross Funeral Home has been entrusted to assist the family with arrangements.  Melissa’s family will hold private inurnment services at Ingram Hill Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of customary remembrances the family requests with gratitude that memorial donations be directed to Hospice of Southern Illinois and may be dropped off at the funeral home.
