Herrin- Nellie Walker, 81, of Herrin, passed away at 5:47 AM, Wednesday, February 9, 2005 at Friendship Care Center in Herrin.
Nellie was born on June 29, 1923 in Rural Herrin to Eli & Gertie (Rhodes) South. She married George Monroe Walker on February 6, 1923 in Kentucky. He preceded her in death on November 3, 1993.
Mrs. Walker worked as a Certified Nurses Assistant at Park Avenue Health Care in Herrin until her retirement. Before that she worked at Hamptons Health Care in Herrin.
Nellie was a member of the West Monroe Apostolic Church in Herrin. She enjoyed the easy country life. She enjoyed animals and raised chickens, rabbits, goats and horses at her home on Oak Street. She liked picking and frying polk with her family. She enjoyed old school wrestling, the Golden Girls and going to country music concerts with her kids and grandkids. She will be sadly missed by friends and family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, grandson; Jonathon Walker, four sisters and three brothers, and her beloved dog Tiffany.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, February 14, 2005 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Rev. Don Colson will officiate. Burial will follow at Herrin City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM until time of service Monday at the funeral home.
