Penny Phillips, 57, of Marion, Illinois passed away on Sunday, October 9, 2022, at her residence surrounded by her family. Penny was born on February 2, 1965, in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, the daughter of Billy and Helen Droge.
She met her husband, Doug when they were in Jr. High School, and they married on June 28, 1986. Together they had two sons, Ryan and Logan. She was a devoted wife and mother.
Penny worked in childcare, loving and tending to kids at Big Top Daycare and Tip Daycare Center in Marion, until the birth of her own children. Once her boys were born, she was a devoted mother to them, while also selling Mary Kay Cosmetics for over 20 years. After her boys were raised, Penny began her career with Marion Unit 2 School District, working in the Jr. High School Food Service Department. She loved interacting everyday with the students for 13 years.
Penny enjoyed going to the family farm, attending and supporting many of the students at their school events. She liked sitting in her swing, watching for hummingbirds and looking at the different tree colors during the fall of the year. She was a member of Whiteash Freewill Baptist Church.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Dean and Wilma Phillips; her sister, Donna Coonrod; her brothers-in-law, Randall and Darrell Phillips; her sisters-in-law, Cindy Phillips and Ginger Droge.
She is survived by her husband, Doug Phillips; her sons, Ryan (Kaitlyn) Phillips and Logan Phillips; and grandbaby girl on the way; her brothers, Billy (Kay) Droge, Jimmy Droge, Mike Droge; and sister, Cathy (Dale) Frey; her sister-in-law, Lisa Phillips, several nieces and nephews, along with other family and friends.
A time of visitation will be held at Binkley-Ross Funeral Home located at 1702 West Boulevard Street, Marion, Illinois, on Thursday, October 13, 2022, from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm. Funeral services will begin at 1:00 pm, with Pastor Andy Lee officiating. Interment will follow at Rosehill Cemetery.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests with gratitude that memorial donations be directed to Hospice of Southern Illinois, Siteman Cancer Center, or the American Cancer Society. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Visit www.binkleyross.com to leave online condolences.
