Roget (Knickerbocker) Kerstein

March 16, 1962 — November 8, 2023

Marion

Roget (Knickerbocker) Kerstein, 61, of Marion, Illinois, passed away peacefully on November 8, 2023, surrounded by her beloved family.

Roget was born on March 16, 1962, in St. Louis, Missouri, the daughter of Roger and Esther (Davis) Knickerbocker.  She was a 1980 graduate of Marion High School.

She married Jason Kerstein on June 18, 1994, and together they shared 29 years of marriage.  She was a devoted wife and mother to Ryan, Meesha, and Noah.

She was a great homemaker and always had home projects going to provide a great atmosphere for her family. This led to her starting RYME Company, in which she remodeled houses for rentals and resell.

Roget loved being by the water whether it be a pool, lake, ocean, or river. She enjoyed many camping trips at several rivers and lakes and riding her Harley Davidson motorcycle. She was very into ghost stories and paranormal activity and spent a lot of time reading and watching shows about it.

Her children recall how passionate she was about taking care of others.  Most of her hobbies included whatever her children were into in the moment.  Roget had the biggest heart and the most beautiful smile. She was fearless and independent, yet sensitive and incredibly compassionate. In May 2007, she earned her Master’s Degree in social work at Southern Illinois University, Carbondale.  She began working for the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services as a child protection specialist. She was always friendly to everyone she met and was never one to complain.

Surviving is her husband, Jason Kerstein; her son Ryan (Jessica Hansen) Mocaby of St. Louis, MO.; her daughter Meesha Mocaby; her son Noah Kerstein; her granddaughters, Addison Hess, and Mila Williams; her brother Cliff Knickerbocker all of Marion; her father-in-law Jim (Delores) Kerstein; and her mother-in-law Barbara Kerstein-Madigan.

She is preceded in death by her father Roger Knickerbocker; her mother Esther Knickerbocker; the father that helped raise her, Frank White; and her precious grandmother Bertha Davis, whom she loved dearly.
