Rose J. Smith

Herrin-Rose Joan Smith, 85, of Kankakee, Illinois and a former resident of Herrin died December 24, 2003 at the Miller Health Care Center in Kankakee. Rose was born October 26, 1918 in Colp to Charles & Sylvia (Pellegrini) Garnati. She married Arthur Wayne Smith on June 15, 1940 in Herrin. He preceded her in death on March 17, 1985. She was retired garment worker from Smoller Brothers in Herrin. She was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church. She was active with the Daughters of Isabella. She volunteered at the Herrin Food Pantry. She enjoyed reading and embroidery. Survivors Include: Daughter & Son In Law: Sylvia & Robert Collins of St. Anne, Illinois Three Grandchildren: Brent, Kyle & Ashley Collins Sister: Anne Mae Wells of Herrin Brother: Sam Garnati of Herrin She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and one daughter, Rose Joan Smith Funeral Mass will be 11:00 A.M., Saturday, December 27, 2003 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church with Monsignor Ken Schaefer officiating. Burial will follow at San Carlo Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home, with Prayer service at 6:00 P.M. Memorials may be made to the Daughters of Isabella.
