Ruby K. Deck

Herrin- Ruby Kathryn Deck, 92, of Herrin, passed away at 6:10pm on Tuesday February 15, 2005 at Shawnee Christian Nursing Center in Herrin, IL. Ruby was born on March 19, 1913 in Williamson County, IL to Ralph and Lora (Kilbreath) Jones. She married Harry W. Deck in Washington, DC in 1938. He preceded her in death on February 10, 1970. Mrs. Deck graduated from the University of Illinois with a degree in journalism, with which she specialized in teaching children with disabilities. Her husband, Mr Harry Deck, whom she met when she went to Washington, DC, was an Administrative Assistant to Congressman Kent Keller and a valuable instrument in the creation of Crab Orchard Lake. Mrs. Deck was proud to be a very loyal member of the First Presbyterian Church in Herrin. Survivors Include- 1 daughter- Robin Deck of Key West, FL several dear Cousins Preceded in death by- Parents, husband- Harry W. Deck, brother- Col. Ralph Jones Per Mrs. Decks request, her body will be cremated. Memorial services will be held at a later date this spring. Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin has been entrusted with arrangements. Memorial donations may be given to the First Presbyterian Church in Herrin or the Herrin City Library and will be accepted at the funeral home.
