Obituary and Interment

Immediate family gathered at New Rose Hill Cemetery on December 20, 2023 at 2:00 pm for a final farewell and interment of Scott Brady (Barnett) Pinson.

Scott Brady Barnett was born on December 6, 1970 to Sharon and Bob Barnett of Marion. Scott passed away on December 16, 2023. His ashes were buried between his beloved grandparents, Jewel and Loren Pinson.

Scott Brady was born to entertain. He was a natural dancer,actor, comedian and impersonator. As a youth, he studied years of tap and ballet at the Travelstead Dance Studio under Claire Travelstead Giles. Scott honed his acting skills under the mentorship of drama teacher Jaclyn Hancock at Marion High School. He was awarded 1st Place in the BPW Talent Contest, and The Scottie Award and The Martin Luther King Awardduring those years.

He graduated from John A Logan College, and received the Irene Ryan Acting Scholarship for theater at SIU-C. Among other roles, he enjoyed portraying Pinocchio as he traveled to Southern Illinois schools with the Children’s Theater. He also studied stage and costume design.

After college, Scott auditioned and won a place in the acting troupe of the Great American People Show, at New Salem in Springfield, Illinois where he held leading roles in productions about Abraham Lincoln. During his time there, he became friends with a young Jennifer Garner, who served as his dresser.

In later years Scott entertained audiences with comedic routines as an impersonator. He appeared at the Timberlake Theater in Mt. Carol, Illinois as Bob Hope and Groucho Marx. Another favorite character was Miss America. Scott was so believable that he was invited to appear on the Maury PovichShow; however, Scott turned down this opportunity to go national and made his home in Marion to be near his family.

For several years, Scott worked as secretary with the Special Education Department of Marion Unit 2. He also served as secretary for A.G. Edwards in Carbondale, and worked at Quick Cash in Marion and Byassee Keyboard.

Scott was a creative and magical thinker. He was a collector of beautiful things: from antiques, a grand piano, and manuscripts to original art.  His home reflected the talent of a designer, an artist and the actor that was inherent to his identity.  He marched to his own beat, dressed in his own style, and was on stage every minute of every day in his interactions with others. Scott remained a kind and gentle soul that always looked forward to entertaining guests in his home. He was like a shooting star that showed ever so bright and is gone much too soon.

Scott Brady Pinson leaves behind many friends that he touched along his life's journey. He is survived by his mother, Sharon Kay Pinson, of Marion and local siblings and spouses: Tim (Barbie) Barnett, Gloria (Kenny) Taylor, Jordan Barnett. He is also survived by his sister Julianna (Chad) Golden of Tampa, Florida.  He leaves nieces and nephews Peyton and Presley Barnett of Marion, and Kyler and Tavin Golden of Florida andHis father, Robert Barnett, a resident of Sun City, Florida. Among other family members are his maternal aunt and uncle, Linda and Jim Byassee and their families; and paternal aunts: Shirley Fox, Mildred Barwick and Mary Sue Maddox and cousins on the Barnett and Montgomery side.

If you wish to pay your respects at Scott’s grave, look for the gold rose star on the east side of  the Pinson monument inNew Rose Hill Cemetery, north of Goddard Chapel, and on Findagrave.com, the grave of Loren Pinson.  His likeness as Groucho Marx has also been immortalized in the “Support the Arts Mural” by Mika on the Pickers Paradise Building east of Bennies in Marion.
