Marion

Stephen L. Aschieris, of Marion, Illinois, passed away on December 22, 2024, at the age of 72. Stephen was born September 2, 1952, in Carterville, Illinois and later moved to Marion where he lived the rest of his life. Steve was a graduate of Marion High School and later attended Southern Illinois University. With a sharp mind and love for the criminal justice system, he had a noteworthy career as a probation officer for Williamson County. Throughout his life, Stephen cultivated and maintained meaningful friendships all over the country. One of his most meaningful friendships was with the renowned American artist, Herbert Fink, whom he visited often in Maine. After retiring as a probation officer, Stephen spent a few exciting years living in Deerfield, Illinois with his good friends, Dave, Mimi, and Mary Cole. Stephen loved to spend time with his many good friends. Whether it be over a breakfast date or dinner with those special to him, Stephen always loved a good conversation discussing the issues of the day and bringing laughter with his dry wit. Stephen was also an avid reader. He read hundreds of books a year and served on the Marion City Library Board. At the time of his passing, he was in the middle of one of his favorite books, “Roughing It,” by Mark Twain.

Stephen is survived by his two nephews, John and Kyle Garner. He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Shirley (Maurer) Aschieris, his sister Cathy (Aschieris) Garner, and his brother Keith Aschieris. A private service will be held on December 31, 2024.
