Sue Mahoney, 82, of Marion, passed away Tuesday, March 7, 2023, at home surrounded by her loving family after a brief battle with cancer.
Sue was born November 12, 1940, in Newton, IL to Arthur and Charlene Romack. She married Jack Mahoney on August 14, 1982, in Newton, IL.
Sue is survived by her children, Tina (Pooch) Smothers of West Frankfort, Amy Crews (Chuck Broy) of Marion, Jake (Mary Lou) Crews of Marion; Step- children Mike (Brenda) Mahoney of Uvalde, TX, Michelle Ellowitz of Plymouth, MA, Brett (Kelly) Mahoney of Murphysboro, IL and Danny Mahoney of Marion, IL.; Grandchildren Haley Mixon (Josh) of West Frankfort, Amber Broy (Aaron Bowling) of West Frankfort, Dustin Broy of West Frankfort, Jacob Crews of Marion, Candice (Mike) Kincaid of Robinson, Meaghan (Phil) Kingdon of O’Fallon, IL, and Zoey Mahoney; Great grandchildren Owen Mixon, Tripp Mixon, Ivy Sue Mixon, Bella Sue Lattuca, Gianna Lattuca, Sage Bowling, Charleigh Broy, Conor Broy, Henry Kincaid, Hayden Kingdon, Kendell Kingdon, Zane Caraway and Ashton Caraway; Her siblings Chuck (Mary) Romack of Arlington Heights, Jane Crawford of Springfield and Sharon (John) McLaughlin of Springfield.
She is proceeded in death by her parents, husband Jack, sister Judy, grandchildren Garrison Mahoney and Natashia Mahoney.
Sue worked for the Social Security Administration for 26 years and retired in 2002. She was a member of The Family Church in Zeigler, IL.
Sue moved to North Carolina in 1990 from Southern Illinois with her husband Jack. They enjoyed spending time on the coast and traveling. They had many close friends in North Carolina and enjoyed hosting them all for their annual St. Patrick’s Day party. She moved back to Southern Illinois in 2017 after his death to be close to her family.
Sue would not miss watching a Chicago Cubs game even if it was a Spring Training game. Her dreams came true in 2016 when they Finally won the World Series. Most of all, she cherished spending time with her family.
At her request, there will be no services. Her family will be having a Celebration of Life at a later date.

Binkley-Ross Funeral Home was entrusted to assist the family with arrangements.
