Wayne Andrew "Drew" Watson, 64 years old of Marion, Illinois passed away on June 25, 2021 at his home. Drew was the son of Wayne and Georgia (Greenwood) Watson. He was a 1974 graduate of Herrin High School. He married Rebecca (Waller) Watson on September 30, 1989. Together they shared 30 years of marriage until her death in May of 2020.
Drew had retired as a patrolman with the Marion Police Department. He most recently had become one of the founders of Freedom Brothers Gun Range in Marion, Illinois and he also owned and operated a unique mobile blade sharpening business. Drew was very active in his local BNI -GAIN Chapter, where he had served as President for two years and most recently named as Chapter Director of the WIN Chapter for the Carbondale, Illinois area. His faith in God was strong, and he seemed to never meet a stranger. Drew shared a smile and kindness everywhere he went. If you knew Drew, you knew you had a friend. He was always doing something to help someone. Drew also had a soft spot in his heart for animals, and once came home to find an extra dog hanging out in his backyard, which became one of his star pets.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Becky Watson and his parents, Wayne and Georgia Watson.
Surviving are his brother, Scott Watson and his nephew, Aaron Watson, along with other family and friends.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 1, 2021 from 5-8 pm at Aldersgate Methodist Church in Marion. An additional time of visitation will be held from 9 am until the time of services on Friday. Funeral Services will begin at 10 am on Friday, July 2, 2021 at the church with pastor Lance Leeds and friend, Steve McKeown officiating. Interment will follow in Herrin City Cemetery.
In lieu of customary remembrances the family requests with gratitude that memorial donations be directed to the Wright- Way Rescue, a not for profit NO KILL animal shelter in Murphysboro, Illinois.
