William Robert “Bill” Heyde, 52 of Marion, Illinois passed away peacefully on June 26, 2024, at the Linda White Hospice House in Evansville, Indiana, surrounded by his family. Bill was born in Marion on January 15, 1972, the son of Charles and Linda (Brush) Heyde.
Bill was a 1990 graduate of Marion High School. After high school he went on to follow in his father’s footsteps. He began his career as a firefighter with a temporary appointment in August 1989 and was permanently appointed with the City of Marion in November 1991. He advanced through the ranks as a Lieutenant, a Captain, and Assistant Fire Chief before his retirement on September 16, 2022. He was an original member of the MABAS 45 Technical Rescue Team and served on several rescue deployments throughout his distinguished career. His dedication to the department made it run more efficiently due to his knowledge of the City of Marion, where he was born and raised.
In addition to being a firefighter, Bill enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his wife Cathy Lawson-Heyde; his daughter and son-in-law Aimee (Heyde) and Luke Otterbein; his son Cole Heyde; his grandson Maxwell Christopher Otterbein; his parents Charles and Linda Heyde; his sister Melissa Heyde; his nieces and nephews Collin (Bethany) Heyde, J.T. Thompson, Zoey Thompson; his great niece Lovelyn Mae Thompson, along with other relatives and friends.
Binkley-Ross Funeral Home has been entrusted to assist the family with services. Visitation will be held on Monday, July 1, 2024, from 8:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Grange Hall Freewill Baptist Church located at 9950 Grassy Road, Marion, Illinois. The Marion Fire Department walk through will begin the memorial ceremony at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers the family requests with gratitude that memorial donations be directed to the Linda White Hospice House. Envelopes will be available at the service.
